WOW…. It is gonna be a FANTABULOUS event for all concerned! Here at “race – central”, we Redmond Rousers Rotary & volunteers are counting the days till we can meet all of you and get this “show on the road”. The volunteers are getting excited, the racers are training, the riders are training, the committee is getting down to the nitty gritty and signing off on the last few details. We are Pumped! The very last checkpoint to be ok’d is at Lion’s park in Leavenworth. AWESOME! While you are there, enjoy some Bavarian bakery treats and cool bottles of water at the table while Narayan & Janet provide a place to rest before the longest leg of the Race…..75 miles up and over Steven’s pass on Hwy 2 towards Sultan.
So…how does a race like this come together?…. this race/ride has been an AMAZING journey & discovery of new ideas, people, friends, advocates, bureaucracy, diplomacy and good ole’ fashioned grit and gumption. I would not take NO for an answer…it simply was not acceptable for anything to go wrong. And…so here we are…. 14 days and counting to the start of a world class race and an event that will change the world. Yes, I said it, this event has the staying power to literally “Change the World”. Every time a donation is made, either by participating in this race, purchasing a t-shirt, becoming a sponsor, making a donation, or just being involved, the bulk of the proceeds are going to help ERADICATE POLIO. By eradicating this horrible disease, we will be saving millions of children from a life of being crippled, or even worse, a slow and painful death, by suffocation. Millions of children have already been saved, by hundreds of thousands of people just like you and me.
OK…. here’s the GOOD news & the BAD news. If we (you and me)…. do not TOTALLY ERADICATE POLIO, we stand a chance to let it creep back into society and kill babies. We have the chance to do it NOW. We are THIS CLOSE. We are now at 99%. We are only 1% away from our GOAL, the world’s goal, of TOTAL ERADICATION! It will come back stronger than ever and possibly back here to the USA, and wipe out all the good we have done over the last 25 years. NO way-NO how do I or you, want to be part of that. I will not stand by and watch children die from something I can help stop. You can help too. Make a donation, buy our t-shirts, sponsor a friend to race, if you can’t, or you & a friend Ride the 1/2 century together.
Think of the ramifications one small dose of vaccine can do for the good of humanity. Think of all the destruction and death POLIO can do, if it is not stopped forever. This is why I am so passionate about it. This is why I would not take NO for an answer…. This is why WE built the Coup de Cascades….Bicycle Race. This is why WE will not stop donating to POLIO till it is gone. Some day soon, we hope our efforts will change to help another cause….but only after POLIO is gone.
Some day soon, the world, will rejoice and we’ll ALL say together, “WE DID IT!” So, let’s all help to END POLIO NOW!
